About Our Adoption

About This Site

In November 2009 we began the process to adopt a little girl who will be called Sophia Grace Broomell.  This web site is a chronicle of our journey to bring our little Sophie Grace home.

About Sophie Grace

adopt_sophieSophie is a “special needs” child who was born in northern China in the fall of 2006.  She was born premature (and very small).  At her most recent medical checkup this fall, just before her third birthday, she was just 29 inches tall and a tiny 16 pounds – the size of healthy 9 month old girl here in the US.  Her speech and language development is normal, according to the report, and she is active and outgoing.  In China, her caregivers take good care of her, but without a mommy and daddy to love her and bring her home she will always be seen as “less than perfect” and could be released to the streets at age 14.  We know that she is perfect, if only she has a place to shine.

Sophia is the Greek word translated as wisdom in the New Testament.  Luke 2:40 talks about Jesus as he was growing up… And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.  Somehow it just seems fitting that this little jewel would be named after wisdom and grace.

Which agency are you going through and which facility is Sophie in? We are in the beginning stages of adopting and need all the information we can get. It’s so confusing!
